New Hampshires' Governor John Lynch today signed today a law establishing Civil Unions for the state. New Hampshire follows New Jersey, Connecticut, and Vermont in allowing same-sex couple to enter into a Civil Union with much of the same rights as Marriage. Only Massachusetts allows Gay Marriage in the United States.
Talking about the legislation, the Governor said, "I've listened and I've heard all the arguments, I do not believe that this bill threatens marriage. I believe that this is a matter of conscience and fairness." Appearently though this legislation is a step in the right direction, several people beleive homosexuals have the capability of threating or destroying their marriage. It is equality in actions but not in words. It is a "Seperate but Equal" mentality that is neither fair nor correct in its continued idea that homosexuals are second class citizens in the United States of America. Neither can this legisltation ever bring in the rights afforded to Married Couples by the Federal Government. Such rights include Immigration, Inheritance, and Tax Benefits. Though the Marriages in Massachusetts are blocked to receive such benefits by Federal Law, such can be challenged in a court of law. By using Civil Unions, people ensure discrimination for year to come. We must stop the hatred and allow full equality under the law. Religion or personal convictions have no place in dictating what others of different convictions or beliefs may do. Hatred under the guise of religion is still hatred! |
