February 14th, or Valentines Day, is Freedom to Marry day! Marriage Equaility is the cornerstone of our fight to stop hatred and become equal citizens with our hetrosexual counterparts. Get involved and see what you can do to promote Equality!
Can you marry the person you love? If you said yes then you are most likely hetroosexual. Gay Marriage is only legal in five countries: The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, and South Africa. Israel which does not provide for civil-marriages (non-religious) for hetrosexual or gay couples must recognize Gay Marriages performed out of the country. Marriage Equality is a Human Right. It says that we are equally allowed to marry the person we love, no matter if straight or gay. Love isn't about religion, or about someone's beliefs. Marriage is about love and commitment and we must afford all of our community members to take part. Thousands of rights and responsibilities are included in marriage, including tax relief and immigration rights. Some couples are forced to pay more taxes or be unable to legally live together due to the discrimination against their human rights. What can you do? You can boycott valentines day and express your support instead for Freedom to Marry day. Until we all are free, we must stand together and fight this injustice. Please donate your time and resources to orginizations fighting for Marriage Equality. We provide several links to orginizations in our link categories, and you may also visit FreedomToMarry.org. |
